[a poem untitled, written during a wedding reception]

How dare I not rejoice with a full heart
in something so beautiful as this?
A selfish, self pitying heart does not
honor a gracious loving God.
We must forget ourselves (I must forget myself)
and come to the beginning of Christ in our lives.
Alone is not truly alone because Jesus
is always there.
Please tell my heart that.
My mind believes, but my heart
falters still.
Maybe my mind does not yet believe also
Is it simple enough as choosing to
be un-lonely?
As I sit here here at a heavily coupled table-then me,
I feel more lonely than ever.
Did I pray for brokenness?
Lord Jesus You once again have my attention.
