Ok, so yesterday was Xmas Eve. I had misunderstood. Dad DID come with my sister and I to see Grandma. He just had me to drive. It was a little scary/weird at first, but then I got the hang of it. The roads are so different out here in comparison to ATL and all the other places I've driven...plus they're BUMPY. Well Grandma loved her present (a prayer box bracelet) I saw my cousin Dougie whom I haven't seen in years. He's grown and gone now doing big things. I met my cousin Jordan's lil boy, and I'm lookin forward to seeing my cousin Fallon's lil boy. I feel so old.
Ok...BAH HUMBUG!
So, Christmas started off as a beautimous day. I woke up around 1:57pm Central (wasn't like I felt as if there was anything to look forward to). When I finally woke up, I read my bible, the devotion I forgot to do yesterday, devotion for today and then Luke 2 to remind me of the reason for CHRISTmas. After reading, I grabbed my Dad's present and took it to him (The Matrix) he liked it! Then I grabbed my presents outta the front room and brought them in to where my dad was and started opening them and my sis and her mom came home (I gave them their presents). I got purse with my initial on it, a black turtleneck sweater with the snap fold-down neck, Mya's "Moodring" CD and a red zip up hoodie with a rhinestone "C."
So then I got dressed and we ran over to auntie Fessie's picked up Pralines and presents, ran back to the house so we could exchange gifts with auntie Jen and family. Then I sat down with Dad and we started Watching "King of Kings" a really long story about the life and teachings of Jesus, but it's nice to see what you read be reinacted.
(to be continued... allergy meds kickin in and i'm drowsy)

This blog started as a merging of three separate blog sites containing entries written as far back as October 30, 2003 when I wrote my first blog. I'm taking a chronological look at my digital verbal life... next step will be to import handwritten journal entries for analysis.

Sleep the day away...
Today I woke up on my own at a quarter to noon BUT I couldn't find the strength of will to get out of bed then, so I ended up staying in bed until 2 this afternoon. I read, and then I went straight to the shower then I ate my last PRALINE (oo I can't wait until Christmas). After that, it was basically laying across the couch the rest of the afternoon watching TV with my sister. I really did not feel like going anywhere so chillin was cool. I'm still feeling like I'm getting a little sick-ish, but I actually feel better today. I love my immune system. I guess the only thing that's going on with me right now is that when I sneeze my throat hurts and I am slightly congested.
When my dad came home my sister and I dragged him to the grocery store for bacon, fruit snacks and other random items that don't go together...o yeah, MANGOES my favorite! I found out that I will be driving to Gulfport to see my grandmother and cousins on Wednesday along with my sister. I don't know why I'm so apprehensive about driving. I guess I'm a little disappointed too that my dad can not go. That has been an annual trip for the 3 of us since I was very little, so that kinda sucks, but I know that he needs to work that day...sigh. I'll get over it though.
I talked to my person today. It made my day because he made me feel better. I miss being able to talk to him whenever I want to, but time apart is good too. Absence makes the heart grow fonder; I know it does.

Llegué a la casa de mi Padre hoy
(continued from "Viajaré a la casa de mi Padre hoy")
"Thank you, Buh-bye now, Take care, Come back and fly with us again!"
That's what I heard when I stepped off the plane today and into the New Orleans Airport terminal. Why did those adieus become such tradition? Do the flight attendants really mean it, or are they numbed after saying each phrase its 20th time. Once would be enough for me. That's just a thought though
anyways...
Well, after another blessed year, here I am again in the Big Easy, the Crescent City, that 504 New Orleans. When I stepped off the plane, my sister had on a vintage sweater similar to mine with the colorful stripes (which caught me unwanted attention later on today) and the zipper, but since mine was more loose, it was more recognizant of those sweaters Mister Rogers used to wear on his show :) The car ride from the airport to the house was long and quiet, almost uncomfortable. I didn't talk because I was worn out, maybe Dad picked up on that. Maybe he was tired too. I was a little disappointed when we got to the house and dad said he had to go back to work though. I guess i didn't get to mourn for too long because my stepmom said that magic word, "mall." Me, Shamonique (my sis) and Tiffany all ate spaghetti with meatballs and just before dinner I gave Shamonique her sweet 16 bday, even though she will be turning 17 a year and a day after Christmas (Jan 26 for you slow ones...). I got her a prayer box necklace (shaped like a cross) and a ring that looks princess-inspired. Both of the articles were symbolic, so we had a brief sister to sister chat about those.
(Side note: Before I left home, my mom and stepdad gave me my Christmas presents and among them was a prayer box necklace that matched the one I gave to Shamonique...ok, so mom kinda bought Shamonique's too, it's all good. I bought the ring at least...lol.)
Ok, so I went shopping with Shamonique and her friend Tiffany, but I ended up being by myself because I was looking for different stuff. I bought myself two really sophisticated looking knit turtlenecks (beige and red) and then I bought Alicia Key's new CD THEN I bought 2 presents: For my dad, I bought the original Matrix DVD and for my stepmom I bought a cute knit turtleneck with cute little knit designs. I hope that she will like it. Unfortunately, I was in the mall wayyyy too long, cuz I am sick and I shouldn't even be awake now. I shoulda been had my behind in the bed. I need some self control. But I dragged around the mall even though I was/am worn out. I'm bloated, so every pair of pants I tried on and every time I looked in the mirror today I was like "Ewww...BLEH look AT the FLAB!!!" My person says I'm tripping, but it's Atkins for me next semester. I don't know if I can do it though, I love carbs way too much. After we got back to the house, Dad was here, and he took me and Shamonique to get poboys (we both got shrimp) and of course I threw in two Pralines (my favoritest candy EVER... if you don't know about them YOU need to FIND OUT). The rest of the evening is virtually eventless though, basically watching TV and talking online.
A highlight...
I would like to take this opportunity to talk about my person... I just want to thank him for continually showing me more about Jesus and making me accountable for my actions and showing me what it means to be a Christian through his active examples, for supporting me in everything but always making sure that I'm leaning on God and not him, for always being sweet to me and putting up with my ways (especially my random edginess) and encouraging me and "calling me out" when necessary... You have been a blessing to me.

Viajaré a la casa de mi Padre hoy
So... I'm going to my Dad's today. Leaving ATL in about 12 hours or so 9 (I'm in AUG right now, barely awake). i've been doing this Xmas in New Orleans thing for about 14 years as of now. I love my dad and sister, but I'm starting to not feel the whole always having to travel during Xmas thing. It's bad enough that I'm in that college stage where going HOME means packing something up anyway (even if I literally lived down the street). Enough griping though. I'm not trippin about going anymore. I'm at peace with it. I miss my dad my sis and my city... the FOOD the people the history. It's all love.

Fall 2003's OuTcOmE
How did this semester turn out?!
Well after studying my behind off for my hardest final, Linguistics ( I technically needed a 195 out of 200 to get a B in that class) God hooked me up with a B in the class. I met up with the teacher a couple hours before hand, got a little help and the part that had once confused me, I regulated on it so that was my miracle final and the only one I'm actually PROUD of.
As for the other FINALS:
Spanish: was like a normal test or "prueba" it wasn't even cumulative. It only covered Chapter 4!!! But HEY, who is really complaining. I know I'm not.
African American History: If you get to take African American History before (or after) 1895 with Prof. Alexander...JUST DO IT. It was an easy A...yes I wrote six papers, but if you are black, they are just "gut" papers based on knowledge of your heritage and your opinions on race relations of the past and present. That A was all to the good and no sweat. :)
Science, Technology and Modernism: I loved the class cuz the material was interesting and the underlying concept of modernism is simple...therefore the "final" only took about 10 minutes for me to take, but I do think it was fairly easy for most. Take that class with Prof. Leland. It's interesting. I LOVE my major.
OK, having said all that. I'm so excited about the semester to come. That Spring 2004 will be off the rip. Everything will be so fresh and I'm focusing on my mind, body and soul: Coming closer to God, eating healthy(-er) and exercising, and being on top of my school work fa sho. I will certainly be praying for direction in everything because my educational and professional plans seem so tentative after I get my Bachelor's Degree. I feel like I'm just wafting in the wind sometimes. I dunno. I still got time. Everything doesn't have to be planned out now... even though a lot of peeps feel that all of that is necessary. I'm just going to make sure I do my best in my classes from now on and the rest will fall into place. I just need to be aware of opportunities, I know God has my back so I'm going to be alright.
END!!! (u ever seen cow and chicken...oo i love cartoons)

fReAkIn INSOMNIA!!! Parte Dos
My mind never shuts up to let me sleep...heck, it never even lets me stay awake peacefully. Constantly I have thoughts on the brain, maybe even worries. I guess I just don't want to look back and regret my sophomore year here at Tech (even though sometimes I regret coming here at all). Right now I'm on this kick about hurrying up so I can graduate ASAP and I think I probably will get the hell on and get my Masters at a liberal arts school. Masters in what? Who knows, but Crystal is certainly teched out. On a lighter note, I love my major. STaC is beautiful, I don't see myself doing any of the technical stuff that goes along with it, but I'm sure I'll figure out how it can work for me.
I should try to go to sleep now, its about 1:40 in the morning and I have to be somewhere for 9 to get help for Linguistics at 11:30 (don't take that class). Maybe my thoughts will chill out long enough so that I can relax and get a little rest before my linguistics and modernism finals. Then after that...... FREEDOM!!! I plan to do ABSOLUTELY nothing for an extended amount of time and enjoy the fact there is absolutely NOTHING that has to be done, except maybe packing, but that's brainless.

Dejáme en paz
If I have learned anything, it's that you simply can NOT please everybody. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying, but now I know when to give up...and I have.

bleakness
Oh life, why do you continually disappoint me when you insist on capitalizing on that element that makes YOU tend to SUCK?!
Assuming that someone read my profile sometime this morning, everyone must have thought that I was just playing when I asked people to call me if the away msg was up past 10 a.m. Consequently, I did not wake up until umm 1 this afternoon and it took me all day to finish my paper/project even thought I swear I didn't have that much to do when I went to bed last night.
I hate the fact that finals exist. Also I don't think I like this school anymore. I keep kickin myself in the butt because I didn't go to an HBCU. Maybe if I didn't feel like the lone ranger most of the time, I'd feel differently. Oh well though. Well its past bed time. I pray that I can wake up in time enough to get my paper to Skiles 4 noon. If not, there goes my grade.

INFERNO
Yay! Caldwell has heat now. YAY! No more freezin my butt off wrapped up like an eskimo just to lay down and go to sleep. The war against the cold is over. I used to say I'd rather be extra cold than extra hot, but I've changed my mind. It really sucks being cold ALL day and to come to a room that is not a refuge from the chilly winter weather. I was literally cold to the bone yesterday. Now I'm paranoid about turning the temperature on the thermostat down too low...and I keep imagining that I feel cold air. Clearly I'm tripping. It feels like the tropics up in here now. :)
I was called something new today. Robocrystal, maybe I am lame for thinking it's as funny as it is, but one would have to understand the context to enjoy a genuine laugh. I guess it's merely another inside joke.
Ooh I just came up with a quote:
True compassion is not selective.

FrEeZiN!!!
i haven't spoken on here in a long time, so here i go... ummm first and foremost it is COLD up in Caldwell. there is no heat so i'm wondering what the problem is and its like in the 30s outside. this is not going to work at all. i have on jeans and sweatpants, two sweaters with a t-shirt under them and my behind is still cold. i'ma put gloves on before i crawl into bed too.
well anyways thanksgiving...hmmm it was ok. the food was good as usual...but as usual being out in the country made me sneeze. it was really great to see all my fam: most of my cousins, aunts uncles and my granmom who is 83 and grandad who turns 90 this friday dec. 5. we had a bday party for him saturday night and about 100 people came and we left the mic open for people to come up and say things to my grandad or about him (this lasted for about 3 hrs). everything was cool, but then grandad mentioned the death of my youngest uncle, keith (died aug 3 2000 when he was almost 33) and grandaddy just broke down mid-speech and started crying and i had never seen him cry before so i started crying and so did my sister and a lot of my other cousins, that was kinda sad... BUT i recovered by going to go get some cake shortly thereafter which made me feel a little bit better.
at any rate, we stayed in mississippi a little too long this time because we ended up coming back with the thanksgiving traffic and when i-20 became a parking lot a half hr west of birmingham i was a little mad because i was trying to get back to campus and see my person and get a little work done (seeing as how i do have a spanish presentation tomorrow and i have a research paper due on monday) but yah kno, that didn't happen so i ended up getting the presentation together in the car and in ruby tuesdays while we were waiting on our food, which was good.
when i finally got back it was 10 and my parents still had two more hours to drive and then work in the morning. i hope they made it back b/c they didn't call me to let me know anything. my person came over to visit me while i was unpacking, but now i'm still upset because the room is really really cold and there is nothing i can do about it besides whine, but i'm going to be ok...lol and that was my day. :)
