I was shocked when my mother called to tell me the news yesterday evening as I drove home from work. When I logged on to fB to try and check on all my VT friends, I thought he had finished, so I didn't worry... little did I know, huh?
Ryan and I hadn't talked in a while, but I'll always remember him as a warm, loving spirit... with a great sense of humor. When I moved to Martinez, GA in 1998, in the middle of my 8th grade year, he was one of the first people who took me under their wing. He was a friend, a companion. He showed me the ins and outs of Lakeside Middle School, literally... (the floor plan was more complex than I was used to and I used to get lost trying to find the main exit at the end of the school day). I will miss Ryan, seeing his screename logged in on my buddylist, taking comfort in knowing he's somewhere thriving and changing lives. I wish to God that it didn't have to be like this.
Rest in peace Ryan. You will be missed. I pray for your family and close friends, and all of those deeply affected by the incident at VT... our nation, the world.
